In Meiosis, each pair of chromosomes are called a tetrad, or a bivalent consisting of 4 chromatids.

Cross Over: The  exchange of genes between homologous chromosomes, resulting in a mixture of parental characteristics in offspring. Creates genetic variation.

Diploid Number; (2N) the total number of chromosomes present in a cell

Haploid Number; (N) the total number of chromosomes present in a cell​

Germ Cell: cells that lead to the production of gametes (sex cells) by meiosis

Gametes: cell with the haploid number of chromosomes.

Gametes are created out of germ cells.

The sperm and eggs involved in sexual reproduction are gametes
