Why do electron pair "repel" one another?
6
So in simpler terms. VSEPR allows us to make predictions about the shape the molecules will form in order to allow their electrons to spread out as far as possible from one another.
Electron Pair Repulsion.

VSEPR Theory Chart
You can find a copy of the VSEPR chart in the class resources section of google classroom. Please load one up at this time so you can use it.
The VSEPR chart is read by determining the bonding sites and lone pairs around the central atom of your molecule.
But remember, you can't use the VSEPR chart until you have drawn a lewis structure of your molecule. So when we get to classwork today be sure to ask for help if you are still struggling with this skill from last class.

VSEPR Theory Chart
A bonding site is any location where a bond occurs or branches from the central atom. We DON'T count a double bond as two bonding sites but is still just one bonding site.
Lone pairs are counted in pairs. They are also only included in the reading of the VSEPR chart if they are found attached to the central atom of the molecule.

Poll
How would you rate your confidence in drawing Lewis Structures?
I've definitely got this.
I'm doing ok but still questioning it a bit.
I'm kind of lost but making progress.
I'm really unsure where to start.
