Introduction to American Money

2
Learning about American money
In America, just as in Thailand, we use two kinds of currency. Paper money, also called banknotes and bills, and coins.
Some text here about the topic of discussion
3
Larger bills exist, but most people don't use them.
Banknotes
Americans use bills in the following denominations (amounts):
$1.00 (one dollar)
$2.00 (two dollars--very rare)
$5.00 (five dollars)
$10.00 (ten dollars)
$20.00 (twenty dollars)
$50.00 (fifty dollars)
$100.00 (one hundred dollars)
4
Notice that the dollar sign goes before the numbers, but the cent sign goes after.
Coins
Americans use coins in the following denominations (amounts):
1¢ (one cent also written $.01)
5¢ (five cents also written $.05)
10¢ (ten cents also written $.10)
25¢ (twenty-five cents / $.25)
50¢ (fifty cents / $.50)
$1.00 (one dollar / a dollar)
5
Half-dollars aren't used much.
Coins
Each coin also has a "name". This is what people usually call them, and you need to memorize these.
1¢ = a penny (it's copper color)
5¢ = a nickel (it's round with smooth edges)
10¢ = a dime (it's the smallest one)
25¢ = a quarter (it's similar to 10฿)
50¢ = a half-dollar
6
The nickel features the image of Thomas Jefferson, the 3rd President of the United States..
Nickels
There are two different designs on the "heads" side of the nickel. You will commonly see both.
