• Phagocytes: Remove cellular debris and bacterial cells​

Microglia

• Align along axon

• Insulating layer called myelin sheath​ (CNS)

​​Oligodendrocytes

• Structural support

• Regulate nutrient concentration in tissues

• Fills injuries in CNS with scar tissue

​​Astrocytes

​

• Membrane that covers parts of brain

• Inner lining of brain and spinal chord​

​​Ependymal Cells

• Create the myelin sheath around the axons of neurons in the PNS ​

• ​The PNS neurons are also surrounded by satellite cells to increase safety and regulate environment
