Tener and ser are used a lot when discussing family.

Also, the verb HAY= there is / there are is used as well.

​For example:

Hay dos primos en mi familia. = There are two cousins in my family.

Hay dos perros en mi familia. = There are two dogs in my family.

No hay tortugas en mi familia. ​= There are not turtles in my family.

​Read and translate these.
Tengo una hermana mayor. Ella tiene veinticuatro años.

​Ella es muy inteligente y paciente.

Tenemos mascotas. Tengo un perro y ella tiene un gatito.
