Simple past tense digunakan untuk membicarakan suatu kejadian yang terjadi di masa lampau dan berakhir pula di masa lampau dalam waktu yang spesifik. Kalimat dalam simple past tense ditandai dengan kata kerja kedua (verb2) yang menunjukkan waktu lampau.

Untuk membentuk kalimat simple past tense, rumusnya adalah sebagai berikut
S + Verb 2 + O
Terdapat dua jenis kata kerja,
regular verb (tambahkan -ed/-d)
irregulear verb

Punch – Punched (Memukul)
Play – Played (Bermain)
Touch – Touched (Menyentuh)
