What are Singular and Plural Nouns?

When a noun means only one, we say it is singular.

When a noun means more than one, we say it is plural.

To make some singular nouns, we add 's'. Example: book - books, lion - lions.

To make sinular nouns that end with the letters x, ch, z, s, ss, o or sh for plural we usually add es. Example: box - boxes, branch - branches, bus - buses, class - classes, tomato - tomatoes, etc. To make singular nouns that end with 'f' or 'fe' plural, we change the 'f' or 'fe' to 'ves'. Example: Loaf - loaves, wife - wives ( but, roof - roofs, chief - chiefs )

Exceptions : Sheep, fish, binoculars, etc. Here, when we say binoculars, we mean one binoculars because there are two holes to see through. Meanwhile, if we want to say many fish, we will say 'fishes' not 'fishs'.
