What is a contextual dialogue?

​A contextual dialogue is one which has one person's words filled in with the other person's words left empty.

​

Your job is to fill in the words for the other person based on the cues provided.

​

You have a word limit of 80 - 100 words and the only words counted are the ones you write.

Tips for writing a contextual dialogue

• ​Pay extremely close attention to the cues. You must include ALL of them.

• Read the entire incomplete dialogue BEFORE attempting to fill in anything. You kust understand what direction you should go in before you start writing.

• Pay attention to whom you are speaking. Is it a friend (tú) or someone in authority? (usted) This will sometimes affect the form of the verbs you use.

• When filling in an answer, read above AND below. You don't want to answer "Estoy fantástico hoy, muchas gracias! If the next line is "Ay qué triste amigo :( lo siento.​" The conversation must flow naturally.

• Pay attention to punctuation! If there are question marks then you MUST put a question. If there are no punctuation marks it is up to you what you say.​

• Respect the word limit! You will be penalized if you don't!

• Don't forget to use fillers to make the conversation sound natural!
