What is an animation?

Have you ever watched cartoons on television? Cartoons are moving pictures that are created by a series of pictures. The pictures are displayed one after another to make it appear as if the objects in the picture are moving.

​Animation software is used to make animations on a computer. Common animation applications include:

Before you make an animation, you must create a storyboard. A storyboard is a series of simple drawings that tells you the sequence of the scenes that will make up your animation. Most storyboards are sketched on paper.

The simple drawings that make up a storyboard are then sketched in more detail.

The sketch is then copied and coloured using a graphics of animation application.
