• ​It is a very Hispanic and religious celebration, mostly catholic to mark the end of Christmas time.

• ​It makes reference to the biblical episode-three magician-kings came from the East to present their honors to the born child Jesus in Bethlehem.

• It is celebrated on January 6.​

​Three Kings' Day and facts:

​Just three kings representing the races of that Medieval age:

​

Balthazar/Baltasar (black-Africa), Melchior/Melchor (white-Europe) and Caspar/Gaspar (yellow-Asia).

​

And they were also led by a star or a meteorological phenomenon.

​

​The Kings bring three symbolic gifts with them to give to Jesus: Gold (oro), frankincense (incienso), and myrrh (mirra).

• ​estrella-star

• ​magos-magicians

• ​oriente-East

• ​enero-January

​Algunas tradiciones/Some traditions:

Mexico has La Rosca de Reyes or Kings’ cake and inside the cake, there’s a small figurine of baby Jesus.

In Argentina, Uruguay y Paraguay kids leave a shoe for gifts, and also put grass and water for the camels on January 6th.

​Peruvian people have an event known as the Bajada de los Reyes (Descent Of The Kings) to give gifts.

While in Puerto Rico, families still sing carols dedicated to the Magi.

​And finally in Spain, people also prepare El Roscón or the Kings' cake and a very popular and special lottery/lotería is held on January 6th known as the Lottery of the Baby, referring Jesus.
