​Sugarcane was brought to america in the 15th century. It first arrived in Brazil, by way of Portuguese Traders. The first Sugarcane planted in the new world was gifted from the governor of the Canary Islands to Christopher Columbus.

​How to create sugar from Sugarcane

• ​1. Find a good sugar cane

• ​2. Crush the cane to release its sugary juice

• ​3. Boil the juice to create a syrup.

• ​4. Wait until crystals form in the syrup.

• ​5. Purify to remove anything that is not pure sugar.
