Continous Tense ( + ing )
Examples : Present continuous tense
He is planting the plants.
Past continuous tense
We were cooking when she dropped in.
Future continuous tense
I will be going for a holiday soon.

Perfect Tense ( + past )
Examples : Present Perfect tense
He has just painted the gate.
Past Perfect tense
The robber had taken the computer when we came home.
Future Perfect tense
The hall will have been cleared by now.

Present Continuous
To show an action taking place at the time of speaking.
- The dog is chewing on the shoe.
- We are making a greeting card for my mother.
- The workers are cleaning the street.

Past Continuous
To describe two actions which were happening in the past at the same time.
- When I arrived, the police was taking down the details.
- He was jgging when the dog attacked him.
- The boys were arguing as she walked in.

Future Continuous
To describe an action which will take place in the future. It is usually used with a time expression.
- We will be sitting on our exam in December.
- The gardener will be burning the rubbish later.
- The cat will be giving birth soon.

To show an action that has just happened or not happened.
- Joseph has just painted the gate.
- He still hasn't read the book.
- We have not received your instruction.

To show an action that was completed in the past at a certain time.
- They had already seen the report before the meeting.
- I told my neighbour what had happened to her cat.
- The teacher had explained before the rules and regulations.

- We will have eaten before he comes home.
- We will have flown to Paris next week.
- The soldiers will have reached the camp when the truck arrives.
