​Family Vocabulary

​- You will need to know the names of all family members in French.

​

​- You will also need to know the gender of each family member.

​Remember! When answering open-ended questions, your name is displayed along with your answer. Make sure you are answering the question (not writing something else) and that you are okay with classmates seeing your answer.

​You might say certain words differently in French depending on...

​- Gender

​&

​- Number (how many there are)

​le = the - masculine (talking about a boy) 

​

la = the - feminine (talking about a girl)

​

les = the - plural (talking about more than 1 person)

​There is one more article you could use to say "the" in French.

​

L' - used when the next word begins with a vowel, whether it is masculine or feminine.

​There is also a different way to say "my" in French depending on gender and number.

​mon = my - masculine (talking about a boy)

ma = my - feminine (talking about a girl)

​

mes = my - plural (talking about more than 1 person)

​Adjectives Vocabulary

​- You will need to know all the adjectives we learned in class.

​Adjectives

​Some adjectives change spelling depending on if the person you are describing is masculine or feminine.

​

​Most of the time, you can add the letter "e" to the end to make it feminine.

​

​Sometimes, the spelling changes more than that.

​Putting it all together...

​Finally, you will need to know how to put both the family and adjective vocabulary together to make sentences describing people, and yourself!

​

​You will need to know if the person is masculine or feminine to choose the correct article (the and my) and spell the adjective correctly.

​To describe yourself and other people...

He is = Il est (iL, not LL or ii)

​

​She is = Elle est

​

​I am = Ich bin

​

​and = et (for using more than one adjective)

Practice makes perfect! Practice writing out sentences in French. Make sure you practice both feminine and masculine!
