​What are stative verbs?

​Stative verbs are those that describe unchanging states or actions that are stable or permanent.

a) Some state verbs may refer to opinions: feel, think, believe, suppose, guess, understand, seem.

​

​b) Some other refer to unchangeable actions: be, belong (to), consist (of), depend (on), deserve, mean, own, resemble.

​

​c) Some refer to likes and dislikes: love, hate, prefer, adore, loathe, like, dislike.

​Same verb, different meaning.

​Some verbs can be used as a state and to describe actions in progress:

​

​- I think you're right (It's my opinion).

-I'm thinking about the problem (It's my current thought process).

​

​- She has a managerial position (She owns).

​- She's having dinner with them tomorrow (It's a future plan).

​

​Some of these verbs are: think, come, see (understand), look (seem), fit, weigh.
