​Check is when a king is under attack. The rules of chess say you have to get out of check. A check can mean when the opponent's king is under attack by one of your pieces (except your king), or the other way around, your king is under attack by one of your opponents pieces (except his king).

​When you are in check, the best way to get out is to use C (Capture). Over on the right, we have an example of C.

​CPR (Run Away)

​When you are in check, the least good way to get out is to use R (Run Away). Over on the right, we have an example of R.
