Simple past tense is a tenses sentence used to state events that occurred in the past and ended in the past.
Contrast with the past continous tense, that is, states incidents that occurred in the past but still occur in the present.

In the simple past tense, the verb used is a second verb form. There are two types of verbs, the regular verb and the accompanying verb.

Reguler verb (-ed/-d)
* Stay - Stayed
* Punch - Punched
* Play - Played
Irreguler verb (to be)
* Awake - Awoke
* Begin - Began
* Drink - Drank
There are, however, some lexicons that have the same verb form as the root verb.

1. Abdul went to Bali for holiday last Sunday
2. She joined the English club class at school yesterday.
