​We are learning how to conjugate stem changing verbs o to ue and u to ue

​Review: irregular yo + Stem changing verbs

​An irregular yo verb is a Verb who's stem changes only in the yo form all other forms remain the same.

​as you can see the stem changes only in the yo form and all other conjugations remain the same. The ending will be the ones that we already know for -ar , -er, -ir (remember them?)

​Stem changing verbs

​A stem changing verb is a verb that the stem changes when conjugated. the stem changes in every conjugations except in the NOSOTROS form.

​the nosotros form the stem remains the same as the original verb.

​Step one - look at the endings is it -ar, -er, -ir ending? once you determine the endings begin with that:

​DORMIR = TO SLEEP. =. look at the ending, it's an -ir ending verb therefore you will use the ir endings

​Stem changing verbs

​STEP 2- We already have the endings, Now we look at the stem

​DORMIR = the stem is everything that is left of the verb once we take away -ar, -er, -ir

​Stem dormir = dorm_

​Step 3 the rules states that we change the o to ue in the stem for every conjugations except in the NOSOTROS FORM.

Jugar is a U→UE Stem Changer

Look how in each form (EXCEPT NOSOTROS OR VOSOTROS) the "u" in JUGAR changes to "ue" after conjugating...

O→UE Stem Changers

• Verbs like PODER (to be able to) or DORMIR (to sleep) are irregular in a similar way.

• The "o" in their stem will change to "ue" upon conjugating in the present tense.

• This is the case for all forms again, EXCEPT NOSOTROS or VOSOTROS
