​Literary devices are strategies that writer's use to make their writing better and more understandable. It's our job as the reader to pay attention to them.

​Metaphor

• ​A direct comparison between two things

• ​Example: Her tears were a river flowing down her cheeks.

​Onomatopoeia

• Words evoke the sound of the thing they describe

• Example: Boom! ​Honk! Screech!

• ​We use onomatopoeia to convey sound in writing
