​When do we use Adverbs of Frequency?

​We use these to show how often we do things or how often things happen.

• ​We usually put an adverb of frequency after the verb be.

• ​We usually put an adverb of frequency before most other verbs.

​Adverbs of Frequency

​1. always - at all times

​2. usually - a lot

​3. often - many times

​4. sometimes - occasionally, rather than all of the time

​5. hardly ever - not often

​6. never - not at all

​Always (100%)

​We use always when we want to express an activity we do every day.

​EXAMPLE:

I always take a shower every morning.

​You do something all of the time = 100%

​Usually (90%)

​We use usually when we want to express the majority of the days we will do something.

​

​EXAMPLE:

​1. Amy usually reads comics.

​2. Sarah usually eats a sandwich for lunch.

​Sometimes (50%)

​We use sometimes to talk about activities or ideas that you do half of the times out of the week or time frame.

​

EXAMPLE:

​1. We sometimes have an exam.

​2. Sam sometimes watches TV.

​3. She sometimes drinks hot tea.

​Hardly ever (5-10%)

​We use hardly ever when we want to talk about something that happened 1-2 times a week.

​We use never when you don't do this activity

​
