​Subject pronouns

​These are words that replace the name or title of a person.

​When we start using verbs, subject pronouns will let us know which form of the verb to use.

• Subject Pronouns are broken up into Singular and Plural forms that come in 1^st,2^nd,3^rd person.

• 1^st person- I

• 2^nd person- YOU

• 3^rd person-HE/SHE/IT (*but Spanish doesn't use it)​

• 2^nd person- TÚ or USTED

• 3^rd person-ÉL/ELLA/ (Spanish doesn't use it)​

​TÚ vs. USTED

• 2^nd person- TÚ or USTED

• ​both mean YOU in Spanish but one is considered familiar and one formal

• ​Tú is used with a friend,family member, or children

• ​Usted is used in a formal setting like customer service, an elder, or a superior

Remember...​

• When there are mixed-gender groups of feminine & masculine, the plural form is masculine.

• For example: ella + él = ellos OR nosotras + él = nosotros

​Instead, we will continue to use Ustedes in that place in the chart.

​In the image here, shows that Ustedes (2^nd person) is the same form as (3^rd person)

​Uses of the verbs ser

• identify people and places: Es la profesora.

• identifies time: Es la una, son las dos.

• ​origin (where someone/thing is from): Somos de Edenton

• ​professions or occupations: Es conductora de autobús

• ​Possession (NEXT SLIDE)

​Uses of the verbs ser

• In Spanish, you cannot add 'S to a noun and make it possessive:

  For example- Rachel's house

• ​You must use this construction:

• ​Ser + de + owner

• ​For example: Son de David, Es de Ellas

• ​When de + owner (masculine)

• ​turns in de + el = del

• ​For example: es del chico
