​While the Rig Veda was being composed in the northwest , several developments were taking place in the rest of the country . We get an idea about these developments through the study of distinctive burial sites. About 3000 years ago people in the South, Deccan ,northeast and Kashmir regions began erecting large stones to mark burial sites. These large blocks were knowns as Megaliths. In some places ,archeologists have discovered a number of stones arranged in circles while in others single boulders have been found standing above burials. At times megaliths have even been found under the ground.
