​Tag question

​In grammar, a question tag is a very short clause in the end of a statement which changes the statement into question.

​Example : It's nice here, isn't it?

​ They were going, weren't

​ they?

​ I am a winner, aren't I?

Noun in the statement changes into pronoun.

​- Ram works very hard, doesn't he?

​- Sita was ready, wasn't she?

​- People were furious, weren't they?

​- The king was found dead, wasn't he?

​When negative words are used the tag must be affirmative such as :

​-Never

-​seldom

-​hardly

​- rarely

​- barely

​- no

​-not

​Ex: -They seldom go to school, do they?

​ -I do not have a car, do I?

​In case of no auxiliary verb follow the given rule

​V1 = do + sub

​V2 = did + sub

​V5 = does + sub

​

​Example : Tina likes swimming, doesn't she?

​ He lost his book, didn't he?

​ You play football, don't you?

​Words for the following have they in pronoun.

​Some body, nobody, no one, everybody

​Example : Somebody helps me, don't they?

​ Everybody was enjoying, weren't they?

​ Nobody has met him, have they?

​If have, has, and had are used as a main verb they will be changed as follows:

​-Ramsi has a headache, doesn't she?

​-The farmers have a lot of food grains, don't they?

​- Our teacher had a car last year, didn't he?

​Understanding the contracted form

​'d +V1 = would ( She'd not write to me, would she?

​'d + V3 = had ( They 'd climbed Annapurna, hadn't they?

​'d + rather = would ( You'd rather watch it, wouldn't you?

​'d + better = had ( You'd better tell your friend, hadn't you?)

​'s + V4/V3 (passive) = is ( She's writing a book, isn't she?)

​'s + V3 (active) = has (He's not finished it yet, hasn't he?)

​'re + V4 = are/were ( They're reading now, aren't they?)

​ ( They're reading yesterday, weren't they?)
