• ​tulee joko to-partikkelin perään (to study, to run, to sleep...)

• ​tai ilman sitä (study, run, sleep...)

• ​sillä on kaksi aikamuotoa: preesens (to study) ja perfekti (to have studied)

• ​ja se voi olla joko aktiivissa (to study/to have studied) tai passiivissa (to be studied/to have been studied)

• ​​uskominen, tietäminen, arvelu -> that-lause, joka voi kuitenkin jäädä pois
