What is this day all about?

• The day Mother Mary was taken up body & soul into Heaven at the end of her earthly life

• Celebrated on 15th August each year

Jesus told ' Woman behold thy Son. Then he said to the disciples, behold Thy Mother. From that hour the disciple took her to his own'

Why did God take both Mary's body & soul into heaven?

• God chose Mary to be the mother of Jesus.

• Mary is also one who is without sin, so God kept her away from Original Sin

• Mary obeyed God and did everything that he asked her to do.

• Mary carried our Lord Jesus in her sinless body

• Since she was so holy, God did not want her body to decay on Earth

• As a special gift, Mary was taken both body and soul into Heaven.

• That is why we call her immaculate which means free from sin!

Let's break down the 'Hail Mary'

1. 1. Hail Mary = rejoice Mary or hello Mary

3. 2. Full of grace = grace is a freely given gift from God​

4. 3. The Lord is with you = It is God who makes her holy

• 4. Blessed are you among women = she holds a special place among all people (Lk 1:42, 48)

• 5. Blessed is the fruit of your womb, Jesus = Jesus, the Son of God, makes Mary blessed

Let's breakdown the 'Holy Mary'

• 1. Holy Mary, Mother of God = Mary is holy because of her son, Jesus, who is God

• 2. Pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death = what we really as for is her intercession, prayers for us just as we would ask anyone to pray for us.
