Were is the past form of are

*past tense- yang dah berlaku pada masa yang lepas

There was is used for singular nouns

example: There was a tree up there a long time ago.(dulu ada sebatang pokok dekat situ)

*singular-satu benda

There were is used for plural nouns.

example: There were a lot of cats that I used to have.(Saya pernah bela banyak kucing)

*plural:banyak
