Endangered Animals in Malaysia

The Orangutan is well-known for its shaggy orange fur and long arms. It lives in the rain forest and loves to swing from tree to tree. It feeds on leaves, fruits, nuts and insects. The orangutan is endangered because of deforestation and illegal hunting.

The tapir is a mammal. It has a trunk which is actually its upper lip and part of its nose. It uses the trunk to pluck fruits and grab branches. The tapir's black and white body helps it to hide from its enemies. The tapir loves to swim and play in the mud.

The Borneo Pygmy elephant lives in the jungle. It is the smallest of all the Asian elephants. It has big ears, a plump belly and very long tail. It eats roots, leaves, bananas and sugar cane. It is currently endangered because of illegal hunting.

Matt: Lim, what is your favorite animal?

Lim: I like giraffes.

Matt: Why do you like giraffes?

Lim: Because they are interesting with long necks. Do you know what giraffes eat?

Matt: Yes. Giraffes are herbivores, right? So, they only eat plants.

Lim: You are right. What about you? What is your favorite animal?

Matt: I like gorillas.

Lim: Interesting! Which is bigger? a gorilla or a monkey?

Matt: A gorilla is bigger than a monkey. That's why I love gorillas. They are big and strong.
