Then you consider what your reader already knows and what you want them to know

Why do you want to explain this topic to this audience?

For teachers: To explain how to use a new teaching strategy in the classroom

For parents: To explain why we use a certain strategy in the classroom

Diction: Word choice

Syntax: Word order/sentence structure

Figurative Language: language that is not intended to be taken literally. This includes simile, metaphor, allusion, hyperbole, and personification.

Imagery: literal or figurative language that appeals to the senses (aka sensory language!)
