Example:

>>> I was standing under a tree.

was "verb+ ing"

( was stand + ing)

>>> Lee and Vijay were walking home from school.

were "verb +ing"

"were walk + ing"

>>> It was not raining outside.

was not "verb + ing"

was not rain + ing

>>> Were they talking?

Were (subject ; they, you, we) "verb+ ing"

Was (subject ; he, she , it, Ali ) "verb+ ing"
