Bentuk interaksi sosial dapat diklasifikasikan menjadi dua yaitu proses sosial asosiatif dan disasosiatif. Sosiolog Jerman, George Simmel pertama kali membahas tentang dua proses ini. Ada proses asosiatif yang meliputi kerjasama, akomodasi, asimilasi, dan akulturasi. Kemudian ada proses disosiatif mencakup persaingan, kontravensi, pertikaian, dan konflik sosial.
