Seconds of Indonesian Independence

held on Friday, August 17, 1945 AD or coincided with August 17, 2605 according to the Japanese year. This very historic moment for the Indonesian people was held at Jalan Pegangsaan Timur No. 56, now referred to as Jalan Proklamasi No.1, Central Jakarta. Ir. Soekarno was accompanied by Drs. Muhammad Hatta read out the texts of the Proclamation that were previously typed by Sayuti Melik.

Admiral Maeda allowed the fighters to use his house as a place to formulate the text of the proclamation.
