Weather and Climate

WEATHER is a set of conditions in the atmosphere at a particular time and place.

WEATHER changes all the time.

The weather in one place is different to the conditions somewhere else.

CLIMATE is a pattern of weather in a place over a longer period.

The CLIMATE of a place controls the weather.

e.g. It would be very unlikely to have snow in Trinidad and Tobago because our climate is generally warm and mild

TEMPERATURE - the measure of heat energy in the atmosphere around the earth. We use a thermometer to measure temperature

PRECIPITATION - usually refers to rainfall however, it is any kind of moisture that falls onto the Earth's surface (e.g. rain, snow and sleet)

WIND - air moving over the earth's surface

CLOUDINESS

SUNSHINE -

HUMIDITY - the measure of how much water vapour is in the air at a given time.

AIR PRESSURE - the weight of the Earth's atmosphere on its surface.
