Past continuous tense

A sentence that is past continuous always have was/were and verb + ing

Example: The cat was running away from the storm / We were hiding under the tree

It is different from past tense because past tense does not use was/were

Example: My dad cleaned the house yesterday (past tense)/ My dad was cleaning the house yesterday (past continuous tense)

Past continuous tense is also used to talk about an action that happened at a specific moment

Example: The cat was running during the day

Past continuous is also used to talk about an interrupted action.

Example: I was studying when the wind blew away my homework
