Passive Voice

used when the agent/performer of the action is NOT important (Australia was discovered in 1770 - irrelevant by whom)

when the agent is UNKNOWN (My phone was stolen = I don´t know by whom)

because I want to talk about the object (He broke the window X the window was broken)

in formal writing (e.g. newspapers)

Present simple: Tennis is played.

Past simple: Tennis was played.

Present perfect: Tennis has been played.

Future WILL: Tennis will be played

going to: Tennis is going to be played.

past perfect: Tennis had been played.

.....

Tennis is BEING played.

Tennis was BEING played.

Tennis has been BEING played.
