Aygeshat

A village in the Armavir region of Armenia. It is located 10 km south-east of the regional center, at 855 m above sea level.

The population of Aygeshat immigrated from Mush, Surmalu, Alashkert, and other places.

The church of St. George, located in Aygeshat, was built in the first half of the 19th century.

It is true that the exact date of construction of the church is not known, but the seal of the church, which bears writing of '1853', has been preserved. This proves that the church was built before that year.

An inscription on the renovation has been preserved on the wall of the church.

During the years of communist rule, like many other churches, this church also ceased to function and collapsed over time. In the early 1990s, it was in a dilapidated condition. However, thanks to the efforts of the community and benefactor Ruben Tsolaki Grigoryan, the church was restored in 2007, the area around the church was improved and is now operational.

According to the famous Armenian linguist H. Acharyan, the Gospel copied by penman Sargis in Akhaltsikhe in 1438 is located in Aygeshat, the place of which is unfortunately unknown now.
