She calmly says they will find a

way to seek the sun and suggests talking to the judge. Her response

shows that she doesn’t get rattled or upset easily

He seems more upset

about the tall building because he cries out and compares the tall

building to a dragon.

I’ll begin with an event: the

construction of the tall building. Then,

I’ll compare and contrast how the

sandalmaker and his wife responded to

this challenge: neither liked the lack of sunshine. I’ll write that in the middle.

But the sandalmaker was angry, while his wife found a way to solve the

problem.

Just as in real life, things don’t always go

as planned, and people and characters in stories face challenges. How a

character responds to a challenge tells a lot about what that character is

like. As I read, I think about how I might respond in a similar situation. What

would I do? Would I feel or act the same way?
