Grandmother Ling

Grandmother Ling sat fanning herself on- a stone bench at the side of the po_ol. Ah' Shung, her youngest·grandchild, came into the garden waving a bag in the air. Though· the youngest, he is the cheekiest of them alL Her other grandchildren were running after him. Her eyes beamed with pleasure as she watched her grandchildren play with boundless energy. 

Cakes! Cakes! Ah Shung is eating cakes!" his cousins shrieked as they rushed towards him. Wanting to tease his playmates, Ah Shuhg ran away, clutching his cakes tightly· in his hand as he waved the bag in the air. The children pursued him relentlessly to the. middle of the white humpbacked bridge -over-.the--pool of goldfish. Ah Shung was truly trapped! 

A playful scuffle ensued. Ah Shung could barely hold on to his bag of cakes. They fell In a shower of crumbs into the water. Plop! Plop! Plop! The hungry goldfish snapped up the cakes. Ah Shung gasped in horror. His cousins watched helplessly as the bits of cakes disappeared before their eyes. 

His grandmother, who had been calmly watching the whole episode, burst into a cheerful laugh at the boy's grumpy expression. "Ah Shung, that's what you deserved for being stingy."
