In 1851, Susan B. Anthony met Elizabeth Cady Stanton. They became friends because they both wanted women to have the same rights as men in the United States. They both worked for women's rights and women's suffrage, or to have the right to vote.

What is suffrage?

In 1866, Stanton along with others who were outspoken about rights for women started an organization for women.
