• Thought that the war supported 'big' business (wealthy companies)

• Espionage Act (1917).....

  • post office office could ban magazines and newspapers

  • fine/jail time for interfering with the draft

  • could not interfere with the war effort

• could not insult (or encourage): government, flag, constitution, military

• Farmers, loggers and food companies benefited

• Logging and shipbuilding became the 2nd largest industry in our state
