The President, The vice President, and The Cabinet.

The Role of the president

• Commander-in-Chief of the U.S military.

• Sign legislation into law from congress or Veto. What is a veto? Stay tuned.

• Enforce laws (Appointing heads)

• Signing treaties

• Pardons

• Chief of State/ Chief Diplomat

Commander in Chief.

• Known as the head honcho of the military.

• Day-to-day coordination of our troops. Active member at the decision table for our military.  

• Inspects our military's newest and most powerful weaponry.

• President are in all conversations on strategic military decisions.

• It’s no wonder our Presidents leave office with more grey hair than they started with.

Chief of State

This means he is our morale booster when we need it and a pat on the back when we deserve it. They are the “hype man” of our nation. An example of this is when the President awards scholarships and medals to outstanding citizens. He gives uplifting speeches during dark times and congratulatory speeches in prosperous time.

Chief Diplomat

Foreign affairs also are a responsibility for the President. The President is not just the face of the country at home—he’s the face of the country to the rest of the world, too.

Meeting with world leaders is another duty to maintain diplomacy. The President must stay involved in world issues. The President looks to advisers and ambassadors.

What is a pardon?

• Allowing a person to be absolved of their crimes and go free.

• Hundreds of people have been pardoned by many presidents including spy's.

• President Franklin Roosevelt pardoned 3,687 people.

What does Veto mean?

The president can "Veto" meaning that he can disagree with a a bill and cancel it. The only way that it can still become a law is if 2/3 of both the House and Congress vote to continue the bill. 435 House members, and 100 congress members.

He can also persuade congress if they need a boost in decisions.

How to become the President.

• Must be 35 years old.

• Must be a natural born Citizen.

• Lived in the U.S for at least 14 years.

• Pick a political party. (Republican, Democratic, Librarian, Green).

• Raise funds (Donations).

• Campaign (Win the Primary's and then the election).

Limitations of president.

• 4 year terms.

• 2 total terms

• Can not: Make laws, Decide how to spend money, or Declare war.

The vice president

The main role is to take over as president if anything would happen. The vice president also breaks any tie votes in congress and advises the president.

The vice president must be elected.

The Cabinet

The heads of 14 different departments.

This is the Department of: State, Treasury, Defense, Justice, Interior, Agriculture, Commerce, Labor, Health and human services, Housing and urban Development, Transportation, Energy, Education, Veterans affairs, and Homeland Security.

Why Cabinet

The term "cabinet" comes from the Italian word "cabinetto," meaning "a small, private room.

They were first created by George Washington.

They currently get paid $400,000.

They can keep their job as long as the president lets them. the president hires and fires them.

Impeachment

• The house of Representatives can impeach.

• This is when you try to remove a president from office.

• Can appoint supreme court judges. Must be approved by the senate.
