The amount of net work done can be calculated using the following equation.
Final Energy - Initial Energy = Work Done
Example: A bicycle was has an initial energy of zero. It accelerated and now 125 joules of energy.
125 ( Final Energy ) - 0 (starting energy) = 125 Joules

Work is defined as applying a force to an object to move it in a direction.
If the object does not move then no work is done!
Work is measured in joules (just like energy!)
