who / that - To talk about people

which / that - To talk about things

where / that - To talk about places

when / that - To talk about time

whose / that - To talk about possessions

We use DEFINING RELATIVE CLAUSE to talk about IMPORTANT INFORMATION because readers do not know who / what we are referring to.

Sentence 1: Jeffery wrote a love song yesterday.

Sentence 2: The love song was dedicated to his favorite teacher.

e.g. Jeffery wrote a love song which was dedicated to his favourite teacher.

Mr Chiu will give the leaders of the teams a word (people / thing / time / place).

The leaders will go back to their groups and describe the word using relative clauses without saying the word

e.g. It is a person who ....

e.g. It is a place where ....

e.g. It is a thing which ....

e.g. It is a time when ....

Other group members will guess the word and submit the answer on iPad.
