Many minority groups struggled for decades to be treated equally under the law. During the 1960's, African Americans, Mexican Americans and women became increasingly involved in politics. Through legal action and peaceful protests minorities gained many civil rights.

Separate but Equal
African Americans had to wage their own battle against Jim Crow laws. Under the policy "separate but equal" facilities, African Americans were still forced to attend school separate from white students.
