6.At the age of 18 he married Anne Hathaway, with whom he had three children.

7. He appears to have retired to Stratford around 1613, where he died three years later.

8. He is buried in Stratford upon Avon and the houses where he lived can be visited.

9. His plays are regularly performed by the Royal Shakespeare Company.

At the time of the story of Romeo and Juliet, marriages were often a way of bringing the two families together to increase their wealth, power, and status.

Marrying for love was not common, especially among wealthy families.

A young person's parents, usually the father, decided who he/she would marry.

They had hated each other for so long that no one could remember how the feud had started

Because Romeo was Lord Montague's son and the Capulets hated him and his family.

Romeo and Juliet fell instantly in love. They touched hands. They talked. They kissed. Then they discovered their families were enemies.

Romeo's name indicates he is a Montague and links him to the family that Juliet's family hates.

They had known each other for a day.

He wanted to unite the families.

Because the man Romeo's friend and cousin were fighting was Juliet's cousin, Tybalt.

Because Romeo had killed her cousin, and now he was exiled.

She couldn't tell her father that she had already married Romeo.

To give Juliet a sleeping potion to make her appear dead for 42 hours, so she couldn't marry Paris.

Everyone believed that Juliet was really dead.

Romeo never received Friar's letter.

He thought Juliet had died and so he killed himself.

She woke up and saw Romeo dead. She couldn't stand the grief and so she stabbed herself.

They were overwhelmed with grief, and horrified at the pain their families' hatred had caused.
