Roman towns used a lot of water, both for baths and houses. Romans invented a way to carry the water from the river to the town. The water was brought along special channels called aquducts. These aqueducts used the element of the arch. These channels even carried water over mountains and through deep valleys,

The Colosseum
The huge amphitheatre called the Colosseum was where many of the games took place. As many as fifty thousand people gathered to watch gladiators fight. Some slaves and criminals were forced to become gladiators. Gladiators fought either another person or wild animals, such as lions, tigers, panthers, bulls and bears.
