Elements
Contains only one type of atom, can not be broken down into simpler substances, and can exist as either atoms or molecules.

Compounds
Contains atoms of two or more different elements, can be broken down into simpler substances, and has different properties than its conponent elements.

Mixtures
Contains two or more substances (elements or compounds), can be seperated physically, and retains many of the same properties of its components.

Homogeneous mixture
A mixture in which the composition is uniform throughout the mixture. (examples: Coffee, Tea, etc.)

Heterogeneous mixture
A mixture in which the composition i not uniform throughout the mixture. (examples: Pizza, M&Ms, etc.)
