Narrative Verbs

We use past continuous to:

1. talk about longer actions in the past interrupted by shorter actions.

2. to set the scene.

We use the simple past to talk about finished actions in the past.

We use past perfect to talk about actions before a certain time in the past.

Ex: I had already cleaned the house when my mother arrived.
