J'ai 16 ans. (I am 16 years old.)

J'ai faim. (I am hungry.)

J'ai chaud. (I am hot.)

et moi = nous; avoir + et moi = avons

Ex: Claire et moi, nous avons la biologie.

Claire and I, we have biology.

et toi = vous; avoir + et toi = avez

Ex: Paul et toi, vous avez les maths?

Do you and Paul have math?

1 name = il/elle = a

Ex: Mme Staub a deux chats.

Mme Staub has 2 cats.

2+ names = ils/elles = ont

Ex: M. Staub et Gavin ont toujours faim.

M. Staub et Gavin are always hungry.

Remember that there are two words used to make a verb negative in French : ne...pas

ne goes before the conjugated verb

pas goes after the conjugated verb

ne becomes n' before a vowel

J'ai faim --> Je n'ai pas faim.

Nous avons les devoirs. --> Nous n'avons pas de devoirs.

Thomas a la philosophie. --> Thomas n'a pas de philosophie.
