Mali empire

Mali is a landlocked country in Western Africa. It is one of the largest countries in Africa, and It is flat and arid. Most of its smaller population is centered around the Niger River that flows through Mali. There are several different ethnic groups that live there are; the Bambara, Fulani, Dogon, and the Tuareg. The official name for the country is the République du Mali, the capital is Bamako, their official language is French, and the population is 20,648,000.

The rise of the Mali Empire can be said to have started in Sundiata. After seizing the former capital of the Ghana Empire in 1240, Sundiata and his men claimed control while continuing to expand the Mali Empire. Using his large army then Musa doubled the empire's territory.

Mansa Musa was the ruler of the kingdom Mali from 1312 C.E. to 1337 C.E.

During his reign, Mali was one of the richest kingdoms in Africa and Mansa Musa was one of the richest individuals in the world. He became king in 1312 C.E. after his predecessor Abu Bakr disappeared at sea. Mansa Musa got his wealth by mining lots of salt and gold deposits also elephant ivory. P.S he had $400billion dollars.

The empire had around 100,000 troops under Musa . Today according to the GFP annual review the Mali military strength is rated #105 out of 140, for reference the U.S is ranked #1 out of 140.

The fall of Mali happened in the 1460’s C.E after civil wars, the opening up of trade routes elsewhere,and the rise of the Songhai Empire.but it did continue to control a small part of the western empire into the 17th century CE.
