All/both/Neither/None/Either/Both..and/Either..or

All means ‘every one’, ‘the complete number or amount’ or ‘the whole’.

We can use a countable noun or an uncountable noun after it:

All my friends are away at university.

All tickets cost 25 pounds.

All information about the new product is confidential.

Both is

used for two people or two things

used in affirmative sentences

has a positive meaning

takes a plural verb

Both countries are in Europe

Either is used

In affirmative sentences

To talk about two people, things or groups

Either coat is okay, as they both suit you. (It doesn’t matter which of the two coats you choose)

Either of these two bicycles is/are suitable for my daughter; she doesn't mind which

Neither is used

to make a negative statement about two people or two things at the same time

in affirmative sentences

Neither parent came to meet the teacher. (The mother didn’t come and the father didn’t come.)

Neither dress fitted her. (There were two dresses and not one of them fitted her.)

We can use neither on its own in replies when referring to two things that have already been mentioned.

-Which one do you like best? The red one or the blue one?

-Neither. I like the green one

Example: My father is very interested in football, and so is my brother.

Both my father and my brother are very interested in football.

The fruit at the local market is cheap.

The fruit at the local market is fresh.

The fruit at the local market is both cheap and fresh.

Either / or: is used in a sentence when referring to a choice between two possibilities.

Either my parents or Linda’s parents are going to pick us up at the airport.

Neither / nor: is used in a sentence in a negative context when  you want to say that two or more things are untrue

Wıth Eıther …….or and

Neıther….nor , the verb depends on the subject closer to the verb.

Either the teachers or the principal is responsible for this.

Either the principal or the teachers are responsible for this.

Neither Jill nor her parents are coming to the party.

Neither her parents nor Jill is coming to the party.
