Integers

Integers are set of numbers that include all whole numbers and its opposite, or negative numbers including zero 0. The numbers to the right of zero ( 0 ) are positive integers, while the numbers to the left of it are negative integers. The arrowheads indicate that the number line and the set of numbers extends indefinitely. Zero is neither positive nor negative number.

When comparing whole numbers and/or integers using a number line, keep in mind that the number to the right on the number line is always greater than the number on the left. Here are some examples. 

n addition to integers, the number line can also include positive and negative fractions. These are put between the whole numbers or integers, at intervals that reflect the size of the fraction. For example, 𝟏/𝟑 is placed one-third of the way between 0 and 1; 2 𝟐/𝟑 or 𝟖/𝟑 is placed a distance of 2/3 (two-thirds of the way) between 2 and 3; and -1 𝟏/𝟑 or - 𝟒/𝟑 is placed a distance of 1/3 (one-third of the way) between -1 and -2.

To compare integers with fractions, start with the whole number portion. If one is larger than the other, then that one is the greater number. Remember that the number to the right on the number line is always greater than the one on the left. Here are some examples: 

Comparing integers with decimals is the same as comparing integers with fractions. You must start with the whole number portion of the given numbers. If one is larger than the other, then that one is the greater number. 

Moreover, when two decimals have the same value of whole numbers, compare their tenths and then hundredths place value until one decimal is larger or there are no more places to compare. Here are some examples:
